Make a Discord bot without coding
To make a Discord bot without coding, you describe what it should do, test it in your browser, then connect it to a Discord application and publish it on your server. On discbot.net the assistant writes and checks the code for you; the dashboard and assistant are in French for now. On Discord’s side there are three settings left: the token, the invite and sometimes an intent.

What can your bot do?
A bot reacts to what happens on your server: a slash command, a message, a new member, a button click or a menu choice. It can also act at set times. The most common ideas each have their own page:
- Welcome bot
Greet every new member with a message, a button and a role.
- Moderation bot
Remove ads, warn, time out members and slow a channel down.
- Poll bot
A /poll command with buttons, one vote per member and live results.
- Game bot
Points, an inventory and a leaderboard saved for every player.
- Role bot
Let members pick their roles with buttons, menus or reactions.
- Slash commands
Your own / commands, with options, buttons, menus and forms.
What does a conversation with the assistant look like?
You write the way you would talk to someone. The assistant edits the code, checks it and sums up what changed. For instance:
Make a /schedule command that shows the next game night, with an “I’m in” button that counts sign-ups.
discbot.netDone. /schedule shows the night, and the button adds the person to the sign-ups.
Got it, you are signed up.
What are the steps, from an idea to your server?
- Create your account
The account is free. During the private beta, the assistant, tests and hosting open once your account is approved (pricing and limits).
- Describe your bot
Create a bot and tell the chat what it should do, in French for now. One idea at a time works best: start small, add more later.
- Test it in your browser
In the Tester, type a command, write a message, simulate a member joining and click the buttons. Nothing is sent to Discord.
- Create the Discord application
In the Developer Portal, create an application and copy its token, then paste it into the Discord settings page (token guide).
- Invite the bot
Use the invite link on the Publish page, on a server where you have Manage Server (invite guide).
- Turn on the intents it asks for
Only if the Publish page says so, for instance for a welcome or an anti-ad filter (intents guide).
- Publish
The Publish page checks the key, the chosen server, the code tests, the security review and the special access. Once everything is ticked, one click is enough.
- Keep improving it
Ask for a change in the chat, test again, publish again. The bot’s data, such as points or sign-ups, is kept.
Without coding, is it a real bot?
Yes. The assistant writes real JavaScript with discord.js, the most widely used library for Discord bots. It checks the code before every publication, and a security review runs on every version. You can read the code in the Code view, but you do not need to.
The bot has the name and avatar you give it in the Developer Portal. To your members, it is your bot.
What if you would rather code it yourself?
That is a great way to learn. Discord publishes a getting started guide that builds a complete first bot. You will then host it yourself: the hosting guide compares your computer, a VPS and discbot.net.
What is not possible yet?
- Playing music or sound in a voice channel.
- Sending files or generated images. Images you add in the Images tab can appear in embeds.
- Calling other websites or services from the bot’s code.
- Statistics about the server’s members.
- Several servers for one bot: a discbot.net bot is published on one server.
- An English dashboard: the dashboard and assistant are in French for now, though your bot can speak English.
What discbot.net does and does not do is detailed on the About page.
Which guides cover the Discord settings?
- Get your bot token
Create the Discord application and copy the token without breaking another bot.
- Invite the bot to a server
The invite link, the right permissions and where the bot’s role goes.
- Enable privileged intents
Server Members Intent, Message Content Intent: when to turn them on, and where.
- Host a Discord bot
Your computer, a VPS or discbot.net: what each option really asks of you.
Every guide and bot idea is gathered on the Guides page.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need my own Discord server?
You need the Manage Server permission where you invite the bot. The easiest way is to create a free test server in Discord, just to try things out.
How long does it take?
The Discord settings take a few minutes. The rest depends on your idea: a simple bot fits in one sentence.
Can I stop my bot whenever I want?
Yes. The stop button on discbot.net takes it offline without erasing its data. You can also remove it from your server in Discord.
How much does it cost?
Nothing for now, with no credit card. During the private beta, building and publishing a bot is open to approved accounts.
Free for now. Create your account and describe your first bot as soon as your private beta access is approved.
