Make your own Discord slash commands
A slash command is what shows up when a member types / in Discord: a name, a description and options to fill in. With discbot.net you describe what the command should do and the assistant writes it, with its buttons, menus or form. The commands appear on your server as soon as you publish.

What can a slash command include?
- typed options: text, number, true or false, member, channel or role, which Discord offers as a list;
- suggestions shown while typing (up to 25);
- subcommands, such as /ticket open and /ticket close;
- a public reply, or a private one only the person who ran it can see;
- buttons, dropdown menus and forms to fill in;
- a restriction: the command hidden from members without a given permission.
Names are lowercase, without spaces, 32 characters at most. Descriptions are 100 characters at most. The assistant follows Discord’s rules for you. It works in French for now, but the commands themselves can be named and written in English.
What does a real command look like, say /ticket?
Make a /ticket command. It opens a form with a subject and details, then creates a private channel only that person and the Moderator role can see, with a button to close the ticket.
discbot.netDone. /ticket opens the form and creates the private channel.
To create channels, the bot needs the Manage Channels permission on top of the basic invite.
How do you create a slash command, step by step?
- Describe the command
Its name, what the member fills in and what the bot answers. If you are unsure about the name, the assistant suggests one.
- Test it in the browser
In the Tester, type / then the command name, fill in the options and click the buttons in the reply.
- Prepare the bot on Discord
The token (guide) and the invite (guide). Slash commands need no privileged intent.
- Publish
discbot.net registers the commands with Discord while publishing. They appear on your server right away.
For how it works on Discord’s side, the application commands documentation is the reference.
What is not possible yet?
- Right-click commands (Apps, on a message or a member).
- An option to upload a file or an image with the command.
- Commands in a private chat with the bot, or across several servers: a discbot.net bot works on one server.
- Closing lots of tickets at once: deleting more than 5 channels a minute pauses the bot as a safety measure.
Why does a command not show up or not answer?
- ProblemThe command does not appear when you type /.
- FixCheck that publishing finished on the right server. If it did, reload Discord (Ctrl+R on desktop): the app sometimes keeps the old list.
- ProblemYou see it, your members do not.
- FixIt requires a permission they lack. That is intended for moderation; otherwise ask the assistant to open it to everyone.
- ProblemDiscord says “The application did not respond”.
- FixThe bot is stopped, paused, or the command failed. Check the bot’s status and log in discbot.net, then describe the error to the assistant.
Frequently asked questions
How many commands can a bot have?
Discord allows up to 100 slash commands per bot on a server. Subcommands let you group related actions under one name.
Can I keep prefix commands like !help?
Yes, the bot can also answer messages that start with !. It then needs Message Content Intent. Slash commands stay simpler for members.
Do I need to know discord.js?
No. The assistant writes and checks the discord.js code. If you are curious, you can read it in the Code view.
How much does it cost?
Nothing for now, with no credit card. During the private beta, building and publishing a bot is open to approved accounts.
Free for now. Create your account and write your first command as soon as your private beta access is approved.
