Make a game bot for Discord

A game bot keeps a server lively between events: gathering, quizzes, duels, with points, an inventory and a leaderboard saved for each player. With discbot.net you describe the rules like you would to a friend and the assistant writes the game. Progress is saved by the bot and survives restarts and new versions.

What kinds of games can you make?

Games played with commands, buttons and menus. These work best:

  • a gathering or fishing game, with a wait between two tries;
  • a daily reward, with a bonus when a player comes back several days in a row;
  • a button quiz, with correct answers counted per player;
  • a duel between two members, where only the right player can click;
  • a shop where players spend points on items, or on a role;
  • a random card draw, shown with an image you uploaded in the Images tab.

The discbot.net dashboard and assistant are in French for now. Your game can speak English to your players.

What does a round look like in Discord?

You type in discbot.net

A gathering game: /gather gives wood, stone or a rare gem, once an hour. /inventory shows what the player owns. /leaderboard shows the server’s top 10.

discbot.netDone. Three commands, and each player’s inventory is saved.

Example shown in English; for now you would describe it in French. The amounts come from the bot’s storage.

How is player progress kept?

Every bot has its own storage. Points, inventories and leaderboards are saved there for each player, apart from other bots.

  • A restart loses nothing.
  • Publishing a new version keeps the data. If you change how points are counted, ask the assistant to keep the existing scores.
  • Stopping the bot keeps the data too, ready for when it starts again.
  • Resetting the leaderboard every Monday is possible: it is a scheduled task you describe in one sentence.

How do you build the game step by step?

  1. Start small

    One command first, such as /gather. Add the inventory, then the leaderboard, once the basics work.

  2. Play in the Tester

    Run the commands and click the buttons in the Tester. Check the rewards, the wait between tries and the error messages.

  3. Prepare the bot on Discord

    Token (guide) and invite (guide). A game made of slash commands needs no privileged intent. A game that reacts to typed messages, such as a word guessing game, needs Message Content Intent.

  4. Publish, then grow it

    Publish from the Publish page. Each new idea (an item, a quest, a bonus) is asked in the chat, tested, then published again without wiping anyone’s progress.

On Discord’s side, a game’s buttons and menus are message components, described in the components documentation.

What does the bot not do yet?

  • Real-time games, or Discord Activities launched in a voice channel.
  • Sound and music: the bot can join a voice channel but plays nothing there.
  • Images generated during play, such as a board drawn every turn. Images you uploaded do show up in embeds.
  • Stats from other games or sites (Steam, Riot, Twitch): the bot does not reach other services.

Frequently asked questions

Are scores lost when I change the game?

No. The data stays in the bot’s storage when you publish a new version. If you change how points are counted, ask the assistant to keep the existing scores.

Can the game give a role as a reward?

Yes, if the bot has Manage Roles and its role sits above the role it gives. Past 20 role changes a minute, discbot.net pauses the bot as a safety measure.

Can several servers share one leaderboard?

Not for now: a discbot.net bot is published on a single server.

How much does it cost?

Nothing for now, with no credit card. During the private beta, building and publishing a bot needs an approved account.

Free for now. Create your account: your first game can run as soon as your private beta access is approved.
